Lara Saunders is an emerging writer living and creating on Peramangk land. With a lifelong passion for storytelling, she sees writing as a testament to the meaningfulness of the world.
Lara holds a degree in creative writing and has been recognised for her work through multiple shortlists, including twice for the Victoria University Short Story Prize and three times for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize.
In 2021, she was selected for the South Australian Emerging Writers Fellowship at Varuna House, in the NSW Blue Mountains. Hosting more than 200 writers each year, it offers an inspirational environment for committed writers from all genres to work undisturbed on their projects.
Lara’s achievements continued in 2022, when she won The Moth magazine’s Short Story Prize, featured in The Irish Times. Lara is a co-facilitator of the Mockingbird Writers who meet monthly to discuss writing themes and styles. She also hosts writing retreats and writing workshops.
